Our Plastic Problem

Here it is. This is how our actions have affected Little Cayman, such an extraordinary ecosystem. If we don’t continue to advocate for these issues, the problem will only continue to grow and much of this beauty will cease to exist. We encourage you to share this with your friends and family to inspire them to make a serious change because we are the ones who will make a difference. Remember, #ouractionsdecideourfuture

Mangroves for the Future

We are highlighting one of the most important ecosystems for our environment. Mangroves protect our islands from storm surge during extreme weather events, they prevent erosion and they are habitats for an array of life. On a developing island, assessing the potential impacts of losing mangrove life is important, but also ensuring that we are able to preserve these wetlands for the future is something that everyone should want to strive for. We’d also like to shout out the @mangroverangersky , the @doecayman , the @reefresearch and the @nationaltrustcayman . Their hard work and dedication to these areas has helped Grand Cayman and the sister islands understand the significance of these biomes, and we are extremely thankful for all the work they do. We encourage you to share this message with friends and family and spread positivity around the discussion of mangroves because remember, #ouractionsdecideourfuture

We need the Reefs

Here in Grand Cayman, we face one critical, imminent threat: our reefs are dying. At Protect Our Future, we consider ourselves to be well educated on the extent to which environmental degradation is happening. After our trip to Little Cayman, many of us were finally able to thoroughly understand what is meant by a healthy reef. The Mission Blue “hopespot” is home to a plethora of life. On a single dive, we experienced all levels of the trophic range, from nudibranchs to Caribbean reefs sharks. It was an inspiring and eye opening experience. Throughout this campaign, our goal was to show others how those who reside in Little have worked so hard to maintain the health of all ecosystems, now, it is our job to restore what we have lost here on Grand in the hopes of a healthier future. We’ve said it time and time again, but without eradicating plastic pollution, maintaining the existence of mangrove forests and saving the reefs, there will be no future. We look to organizations such as @mission_blue , @plastic_free_cayman , the @doecayman , the @nationaltrustcayman , @caymangov and @officialwaynepanton for their support and guidance in all that they do, because remember, #ouractionsdecideourfuture
